A memorial wake for Phyllis Katherine McCurry, 79, a Carson City resident for the past seven years, will be at 3 p.m. June 24 at the Old Washoe Club in Virginia City.

Mrs. McCurry died June 9, 2007, at her home. She was born May 8, 1928, in Bonesteel, S.D., to Deamose J. and Josephine Raymond.

She attended school in South Dakota on an Indian reservation and in El Cajon, Calif., graduating from Grossmont High School. She graduated from beauty school.

She married Stanley D. Lynn on May 24, 1946. He died in 1956. She married John H. McCurry on June 26, 1975, in El Cajon.

Mrs. McCurry worked as a beautician, tended bar, waited tables and owned and operated a gas station and a restaurant. After moving to South Lake Tahoe, she worked as a waitress at Mc P's Irish Pub & Grill.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in El Cajon. She enjoyed dancing, gambling, crocheting and reading.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen A. McCostlin; brother Lloyd Deamose Raymond and sister Nima May Roseberry.

Among her survivors are her husband of Carson City; children Stanley F. Lynn of Lakeside, Calif., Rodney Randal Lynn of El Cajon, Daryl Dee Lynn of South Lake Tahoe; Sharon J. Fitch of Dallas, Ore., Patrick W. McCurry and Candia L. Friesen, both of Salem, Ore., Debora S. McCurry of Carson City, Reenie K. Kilgore of Sheridan, Ore., Eileen C. McCurry-Hays of Salem and Michael S. McCurry of Cool, Calif.; brother Willis Floyd Raymond of San Jacinto, Calif.; sisters Frieda Alice Arias of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Della Marie Wood of La Mesa, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada.
