Licenses suspended for three contractors

Licenses for three Northern Nevada contractors were revoked this week by the Nevada State Contractors Board, while a fourth license was suspended.

McKinnon Construction, license number 57314 (residential & small commercial), based out of Fernley, was found in violation of Nevada Revised Statute 624 for allowing a license to be used by an unlicensed person; association with an unlicensed person; failure to keep in force a bond or cash deposit; aiding or abetting an unlicensed person; and failure to establish financial responsibility.

McKinnon was ordered to pay investigative costs, $3,500 in administrative fines and reimburse the board for monies paid out of the Residential Recovery Fund. The license was revoked.

Apex Land Development, license number 56030 (residential & small commercial and speculative building) out of Sparks, was found in violation of NRS 624 for failure to establish financial responsibility. The Apex was ordered to pay investigative costs and its license was surrendered.

Spriet & Sons Excavating, license numbers 39746 and 45746 (piers & foundations, excavating grading trenching & surfacing, pipeline & conduits, residential & small commercial), of Winnemucca, was found in violation of NRS 624 for failure to comply with the terms of the contract; failure to comply with the board's Notice to Correct; failure to include the monetary license limit or license number on a contract or proposal; failure to keep in force a bond or cash deposit; failure to include the Residential Recovery Fund information on a contract or proposal; abandonment of a construction project; willful disregard of the building laws of the state; and failure to establish financial responsibility.

The Winnemucca company surrendered license number 45746. License 39746 is suspended until a current financial statement is provided to the board.

The Business Review Program is one in which a contractor's business practices and regulatory compliance is examined by NSCB investigative staff. The program is a part of board's proactive investigative efforts.

Under Nevada Revised Statutes, a licensee is subject to disciplinary action by the board for failure to comply with the requirements of the laws or regulations governing contractors. Violations may result in board action against the contractor's license.

The contractors board has the power to regulate contractors and discipline licensees who violate NRS 624. Disciplinary action may consist of a fine of up to $10,000 per offense, an order for corrective action, suspension, revocation or other action.
