Douglas girls swim knocks off Manogue

The Douglas High girls swim team rolled to a 172-114 win over Manogue on Tuesday while the Tiger boys were edged by the Miners 130-103.

For the Tiger girls, Haley Vonschottenstien, Whitney Simpson, Katie O'Neill and Sarah Sigala won the 200-yard medley relay in 2 minutes, 4.91 seconds, O'Neill won the 200 individual medley in 2:26.91, Denai Neilander won the 100 freestyle in 1:10.32, Simpson won the 100 backstroke in 1:14.31 and Vonschottenstien, Sigala, O'Neill and Simpson won the 400 free relay in 4:09.97. Manogue's Samantha Ashmore, who swims for the Carson Tigersharks, won the 200 free in 2:04.52 and the 100 butterfly in 1:05.28.

For the Tiger boys, Blake Maxwell won the 100 free in 57.70 while James Spencer was second.

Fernley Babe Ruth signups scheduled

Fernley Babe Ruth Baseball League will hold sign-ups Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Fernley City Hall.

The cost is $100 per player.

For those who cannot make those sign-ups, late registration will be 1-3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Fernley Out-of-Town Park. An additional $25 will be assessed to late applicants.

No applications will be allowed after March 23.

The Babe Ruth Baseball League is operated by volunteer coaches, managers, umpires and snack personnel. There is a $10 fee for volunteers to conduct a background check.

Meetings are 5 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month at Fernley City Hall.

Lyon County Babe Ruth signups

Lyon County Babe Ruth is seeking players and volunteers for the 2007 season.

To join, call Korey Farnworth at 450-9124 for a registration packet. Volunteers interested in serving to support the baseball program as umpires (plate and base) and coaches should also contact Farnworth for more information.

The season will include a 20-25 game schedule competing against teams from Carson, Fernley, Fallon, Truckee, North Valley Reno, Silver Springs and possibly Lovelock, Gardnerville, North Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe.

The league is hoping to field teams in three age divisions; 13-only prep Division: 13 to 15 Division; and 16 to 18 Division.
