The Nevada Department of Transportation wants residents and commuters on Highway 50 East to take a ride.
As the department nears completion of a study on transportation alternatives for 50 miles of Highway 50, from Carson City to the Leeteville Junction in Churchill County, they are seeking comments on several proposed changes.
Saturday, NDOT is offering residents and commuters along the Highway 50 corridor the chance to view and discuss alternatives during a bus tour of the highway.
"There is a lot of new development in that area. Residents and commuters have expressed concerns about what could happen and we want to provide some information," said Sandi Stanio, NDOT program coordinator.
The bus tours will leave from Terrible's Casino in Dayton on the hour from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. On even hours, the bus will make a round-trip westbound to Carson City. On odd hours it will head east and turn around at Silver Springs.
"This also allows us to get the locals' view of what they see. We aren't out there driving these roads every day," Stanio said.
The corridor study was commissioned in fall of 2005 at the request of Carson City, Lyon, Churchill and Storey counties. It is being paid for by NDOT and is expected to be completed late next month.
"We want to plan for the future so when future developments come in, we can control congestion on the highway," Stanio said.
