Tin Nyo danced, talked; now it's 'Field Guide'

Last week New Yorker Elaine Tin Nyo came to town and danced her nimble feet off. She appeared at the Harley-Davidson dealership Saturday (the motorcycles roared) and at the Greenhouse Garden Center Monday, dancing three minutes with all comers. She then talked with them for three minutes. A delightful time was had by all. It was a CCAI CAP project. Skip all the initial letters, just enjoy the idea of such dancing.

And then, this week enjoy "Field Guide," an art-in-print and online project by Seattle artist Jennifer Montgomery for CAP.

Two hundred copies of the "guide" were printed in Seattle by the artist in the University of Washington Printmaking Department studios. They will be assembled with the help of volunteers in Carson City and distributed on Monday and Tuesday to local cafes, bookstores, the public library, shops and to people visiting the historic downtown.

The guide is pocket-sized and folds out like a map. It contains images harvested from the Internet. Carson continues to enjoy some highly imaginative art works. Keep 'em coming, CAP.

FROM THE VAULTS

FILM: "Passion of Anna" maybe my last Ingmar Bergman film for a while; he gets awfully psychological at times. This one is about Anna (Liv Ullmann) who meets Andreas (Max von Sydow) at his home on a remote Scandinavian island. She uses his phone and then leaves, "forgetting" her purse. Andreas searches the purse for identity and finds a letter which she wrote, telling how terrible her marriage is. They become friends through the offices of Eva (Bibi Andersson) and Elis (Erland Josephson). She moves in with him. The climax is a fire which burns Andreas' barn, which he blames on Anna. They fight and part. Many strange moments in this film. Fine if you like deep thinking and moody photography (by Sven Nyquist). Rated R for limited nudity; released in 1970.
