DUI checkpoint scheduled for Saturday
The Carson City Sheriff's Department will be conducting a DUI and seat-belt checkpoint from 3-9 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Drive and Lepire Drive. The checkpoint is designed to help keep intoxicated drivers off the road and encourage seat belt use during the Memorial Day Holiday.
Deputies are also taking part in the nationwide "Click it or Ticket" campaign to encourage seat belt use. Beginning Thursday and running through June 4, additional deputies will be on patrol looking for people not wearing their seat belts. Those found not wearing seat belts will receive a $67 ticket.
The overtime expenses for the campaign are being paid for by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety in the Department of Public Safety.
Library will be closed June 1
The Carson City Library will be closed June 1 because workers and volunteers will be meeting to plan for future needs and endeavors.
The library will reopen at 10 a.m. June 2.
Regular hours for the library are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library is located at the corner of Roop and Washington Streets.

Flags are available for veterans buried at Lone Mountain Cemetery
Local veterans' organizations within the Carson City area will be putting U.S. flags on veterans' graves at Lone Mountain Cemetery starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Other groups assisting are local Boys Scouts and Naval Junior ROTC cadets. Flags will be available to those who want to post one on veterans' graves in other areas of the cemetery.
Following Memorial Day activities on Monday flags will be removed from the graves. The public is encouraged to participate.

Rides during steam up free to military
The Nevada State Railroad Museum's Memorial Day Steam-Up will be Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Trains run every 40 minutes from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Ballet Nevada offers 'Wizard of Oz'
Ballet Nevada will present a storybook ballet "The Wizard of Oz," Friday and Saturday at the Reno High School Theatre, 395 Booth St., and Sunday at Piper's Opera House, in Virginia City.
Gerald Pierce, an original Munchkin and soldier in the 1939 "Wizard of Oz" film, will narrate the ballet.
The ballet stars local professional Marty Lewis and a cast of more than 35 local dancers.
"The Wizard of Oz," is choreographed and directed by Ramona Cachinero.
Friday performances at the Reno High School Theatre are 7 p.m. Saturday performances at Reno High are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance for adults and $5 for children up to age 11. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $7 for children up to age 11
The performance at Piper's Opera House is 2 p.m. Sunday. Advance ticket sales are $15 for adults and $7 for children. Tickets at the door are $20 for adults and $12 for children.
