We congratulate the final graduating class of Western Nevada Community College (next year's graduates will be from Western Nevada College).

These days, the college is becoming known for a precocious baseball team that, in only its second year, will be playing in the college world series this weekend in Colorado. It's an inspiring story, but also an apt metaphor for graduates, who will find themselves as underdogs at some stage of their lives. The baseball team found the answer to that is simple: By believing in yourself and in your team, you can accomplish anything.

The individual success stories of the 204 graduates are every bit as important as that of the baseball team. Many of the students worked to better themselves through school while raising families and holding down jobs.

We hope many of the graduates choose to build their futures right here in Northern Nevada. They are exactly the kind of people who will ensure this will be a great community for years to come, through their own hard work and ideals and those they pass on to their children.

And that's yet another reminder of how important WNCC is to this community as it educates the work force so desperately needed by area employers.

Go Wildcats!
