BLM Resource Advisory Councils meeting today


The Bureau of Land Management Nevada Resource Advisory Councils will hold their annual joint meeting at the Gold Dust West in Carson City today and Friday. The meeting begins at 8 a.m. today. The public is invited to attend. A public comment period will be held at 4:30 p.m. today.


This forum provides an opportunity for people to ask questions of the citizen-based advisory council or to make comments that may assist Resource Advisory Councils in their planning efforts. The meeting agenda is posted at www.blm.gov/nv.




Youth sought to make films on homelessness


The Dialogue Group to End Childhood Hunger and Homelessness in Carson City invites all area youth to an informational meeting on an upcoming video contest documenting homelessness in our community.


The meeting will be at 4 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, 305 W. Musser St.


An outline of the process of making a short film, highlighting resources for the project, and taking sign-ups for the short film competition on homelessness for Dec. 21.

Open Mic Night today at WNC


Don't miss Western Nevada College's Open Mic Night 7:30 p.m. today, at the Dini Student Center. All ages are welcome to this event that is sponsored by the Associated Students of Western Nevada.


Attendees will enjoy free food, fun, and entertainment provided by the contestants. A microphone will be provided, but participants must bring their own props, musical instruments, and whatever else they'll need to aid their performance.

Brüka Theatre looking for plays


Brüka Theatre will accept submissions of original 10-minute plays by local playwrights for an evening of staged readings in January.


Guidelines for submissions are:


• Any genre welcome (comedy, drama, mystery, avant garde, solo, etc.)


• Maximum of 10 pages in standard manuscript format


• Maximum of six characters


• Suitable for a staged reading format


• Must be a complete play (as opposed to a scene or a "bit")


• Send 3 copies. Only printed plays will be accepted. No e-mail.


The deadline for submissions is Dec. 1. Priority consideration will be given to the first 10 submissions that meet criteria. Plays will be announced in December.
