Misfits present holiday show

The Misfits Theater Group will present a special Christmas dinner and mystery show Dec. 7-8 upstairs at Chuck's Old West Grill in the historic Odeon Hall, 65 Pike St., Dayton. The show is written and directed by Tony Thornburg.

The audience will enjoy a delicious, traditional Christmas dinner of turkey, ham and all the fixings. Tickets are $25, including dinner. Call Carol at 246-9622 for reservations.

Fallon

Irish show at Oats Park Art Center

Churchill Arts Council will present two performances by Téada and special guests at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon.

Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers, $10 for children/students and are available at 423-1440. Doors open an hour before show time. There will be a no-host art bar at each event and CAC's galleries will be open.

Turkey Trot can help to burn calories

The Fernley Pool will hold the Aqua Turkey Trot from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the pool, Hardie and Cottonwood Lanes, Fernley. The Turkey Trot is designed to be a healthy way of dealing with all the calories from holiday foods. Call 575-2121.

Silver Springs

4-H Community Club meets Monday

The Silver Springs 4-H Community Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Silver Springs Elementary School lunchroom.

Groups offered are: Cavies, skiing/snowboarding, photography, embroidery/cross stitch, rocketry/astronomy, dog care and training and community club.

Any adults willing to teach a group are welcome.

There will be sewing, crafts, any animal group, outdoor camping, shooting sports, skateboarding, cooking, and more.

Family Bingo tonight

Silver Stage High School's Family Bingo Night is set for 6 p.m. today in the school's multipurpose room.

Cards are $3 each for adults or four for $10. For seniors, are three cards for $5; and for students pay $1 each card.

Each Bingo card can be used for all eight games. There will be a raffle and tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Call 575-5071.

Virginia City

Angel Tree adoption program begins

The annual Angel Tree adoption program sponsored by Community Chest Inc. has begun.

The angel trees, located in the Virginia City Post Office and Hillside Elementary School, will contain cutout angels as ornaments. The ornaments have wishes of people in the county in need of gifts this Christmas.

Jenna Blubaugh of Community Chest said the purpose of the program is to provide warm winter clothing for children and adults of Storey County.

Donors can take an angel off the tree, purchase the items listed, wrap them and return them to the tree.

Christmas Parade of Lights set

Floats, marching groups and equestrians will be decorated for the annual Christmas on the Comstock Parade of Lights down C Street on Dec. 1.

The parade will begin at 5 p.m., with registration and lineup beginning at 4 p.m., at the Historic Fourth Ward School at the south end of town.

The parade, the kick off to Virginia City's annual month-long Christmas on the Comstock festival, will feature Beauregard, the car-driving dog, the Sierra Pacific Hot Stix drill team, many floats lit up for the season and Santa Claus.

Cowboy poetry event helps Piper's

"Saddle Sore," a night of cowboy poetry and music featuring Gene Skaug, Steve Neil and former Comstock Cowboy Glen Buschine will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Piper's Opera House.

Tickets are $15 and sold at the door. Proceeds benefit Piper's Opera House Programs Inc.

Cowboys Christmas show at Piper's

David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform their annual "Christmas in the Sierra" production at Piper's Opera House for two shows, 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

The band mixes Christmas songs cowboy-style with holiday originals and traditional carols. Santa will be on hand for the children.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and veterans, and $12 for children younger than 12. Call 847-4768.

St. Mary's Art center to host wine tasting

St. Mary's Art Center will offer the Twisted Vine Holiday Wine Tasting at 4 p.m. Dec. 8.

Wine lovers can spend the afternoon talking with vintners showcasing their wines, sampling delicious appetizers and strolling around the newly renovated and redecorated SMAC Art and Retreat Center in historic Virginia City.

All proceeds benefit programming at the center.

The event is being organized by Anthony Kingland of Appellation Wine Company of Reno.

Tickets are available for a donation of $25 for individuals and $45 for couples and can be purchased by calling the center at 847-7774.

Theater Muckers present 'The Tempest'

The Virginia City High School Theater Muckers will perform William Shakespeare's "The Tempest' for their fall 2007 production.

"The Tempest" is believed to be the last play written solely by Shakespeare.

Though initially considered a comedy, it is better known as a romance, according to Wikipedia.

The play will be performed at 1 p.m. Dec. 5, and 7 p.m. Dec. 6-7 in the Virginia City High School commons. Tickets are $10 for adults; $7 for students and children younger than 12.

Yerington

Nutcracker tickets on sale

The Reno Dance Company's Hometown Nutcracker, sponsored by the Through A Child's Eye Foundation with support from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, will be performed at 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 8-9 at the Dini Center for the Performing Arts in Yerington.

Tickets prices are $20 for adults and $15 for children and seniors, and include reserved seating as well as refreshments during intermission.
