120 YEARS AGO


Headline: A good sign. A large increase of business on the V&T. During the past month the increase has been more marked than at any other period for 10 years past. All day the big freight and back-action wagons fill the space about the platform, with everybody busy as bees.


100 YEARS AGO


Gov. Sparks has issued a proclamation offering a reward of $250 for the arrest of the murderer(s) of Barney Griffen and William Connors, the two miners found in the ruins of their burned cabin at Stimlers, in Esmeralda County. The officials of that county have also added a reward of $500 for the arrest of the murderers, a renegade Indian and a white man. A posse is following the trail of the men and they are expected to be apprehended soon.


70 YEARS AGO


Gloria Ghiglieri, 16, of Carson City has earned the Nevada 4-H championship in food preservation on six year's of club work in which she canned 1,324 pints of fruits, vegetables and meats and made 169 glasses of jelly.


50 YEARS AGO


Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Buzz) Andersen received an unexpected surprise when they were notified that their entry in the Nevada Day parade had been awarded a second place ribbon. The entry of their pet dog "Baby" riding on the back of "Jinx" a sheep, also a pet at the Andersen ranch, received the award in the most unusual animal entry category.


20 YEARS AGO


Donors to former Sen. Paul Laxalt's presidential campaign will get a partial refund because the effort ended with a surplus. Laxalt, a former Nevada governor and two-term U.S. Senator, raised more than a $1 million this year for an "exploratory" campaign committee.


10 YEARS AGO


A Carson City teen was slightly injured while rock climbing after he fell 60 to 75 feet in Voltaire Canyon. "There was an angel on his shoulder for sure," said Adele Malone, the mother of Danny Malone.
