Championship outhouse racing begins today


Virginia City World Championship Outhouse Races will be today and Sunday. Kick off for the event begins at noon today with a parade through the center of town. The first race begins at 1 p.m. The races continue every half hour until finished. Sunday the races begin at noon, and continue every half hour with the finals from 2-3 p.m.

Alpine County


Artists host open studio tour in Markleeville


The fifth annual Markleeville Artists Autumn Open studios will be from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Sunday in various studios in Markleeville, Calif.


Visitors are requested to stop at the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center for maps and guides to the artists' studios. Open studios will be indicated with banners.


Twenty artists are participating, and some include: Peter Chope, Dianna Mitzher, Gina Gigli, Suzanne Barr, Mark and Carolyn Vaughn and Todd Branscombe.

The Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada Inc. announced a youth conference in conjunction with the 42nd Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc. taking place today and Sunday at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.

Truckee


Truckee to stage wine, shop walk


The fourth annual Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop is set for noon-4 p.m. today.


Cost is $35 ($25 in advance) and attendees will receive a commemorative wine glass, a program and map to participating venues and five tickets for food tastings at any of the participating locations. Tickets may be purchased at www.TruckeeWineWalk.com.
