Mariah Lopez, 9, has set ambitious goals at an early age.

She is actively preparing for competitions to reach them. Lopez, along with several other youngsters in Fernley, are attending modeling and interview workshops presented by the Cinderella Girl Youth Development Scholarship Program & Pageant directed in Fernley by Rachel and Kim Lyon, a mother-daughter team.

"My life's ambition is to someday be Miss USA," Lopez said.

Lopez recently won first place within all age groups at Fernley's Got Talent contest held at the Out-of-Town Park during Senior Pro Rodeo weekend last month. Her dance routine garnered the coveted prize.

Prior to that, she represented Fernley in her first competition at the Cinderella Girl State Pageant in Las Vegas in March. She won the talent competition for her age group. She also took the Best Newcomer Award and Prettiest Smile Award at the Las Vegas competition.

Lopez participates in the international pageant organization that encourages girls to be "all that she can be."

Free modeling and interview workshops are available for those interested in participating.
