One shot, two shot, everywhere a flu shot.

Carson residents are expected to turn out "in record numbers" during the Nevada Day celebration to receive inoculations against what is purported to be "an especially potent" strain of flu this season.

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare will offer flu shot clinics throughout the month of October, including during the Nevada Day Parade.

"We're excited to be a part of Nevada Day," said healthcare spokeswoman Cheri Glockner. "Our nurses will be there to provide flu shots.

"It's a rare opportunity to try to make sure the community is covered."

The Nevada Day shot clinic, set to take place from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 27 on the Legislative Plaza, is just one of many to take place in the greater Carson area through the end of the month.

It's also staged to be the biggest.

"We have an ample supply for vaccine," Glockner said.

The shots will be given out as long as people are waiting, hospital officials said.

Shots are $25 each. If a recipient is covered with Medicare Plan B, the cost will be billed to Medicare.

"The flu that was in the Southern Hemisphere this year was very virulent," Glockner said. "The vaccine we have this year is very well-matched to fight that flu."
