The Carson Mitey Mite Blue Senator youth football team survived a mistake laden first half and driving wind and rain to take a 20-12 win at home on Friday against a tough North Tahoe Ram team.
The Rams opened the scoring by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. After exchanging fumbles the Senators got on the board with a Gage Gunzburg 16 yard touchdown run.
Carson's defense led by Jesse Knorzer, Spencer Berger, Tristen Martel, Nick Andreas, Luke Myers, Jarod Butler, Hunter Wheeler, Anthony Miguel, Kyle Gagnon, Conner Larkin and Brandon Basa stopped the Rams on fourth and 6 to end the first quarter tied at 6-6.
After another Carson fumble the Rams took a 12-6 lead. The Senators defense again caused another Ram turnover when Knorzer stripped the ball from the ball carrier and David Moniz-Lewis recovered. The Senators put together a nice drive but were held on fourth down to keep the score 12-6 at halftime.
The Senator offense came to life in the third quarter with a nice drive led by quarterback Derek Schafer and an 8 yard touchdown run by Moniz-Lewis. Carson's defense shut down the Rams the rest of the way and the Senator offensive line of Nick Tibma, Bodee Brennan, Sam Wilson, Alec Fletcher and Noah Tomasco controlled the line of scrimmage with the weather becoming nasty.
Carson scored again on a Mathias Williams 16 yard run to make it 19-12. Schafer hit wideout Brandon Gagnon for the crucial extra point on a nice slant pass for the final margin.
Carson improved to 6-1 and plays next weekend in a to be announced location.
