Carson City

Jewish gospel music performance tonight

The Liberated Wailing Wall, a Jews for Jesus music team, will present a program of music, drama and testimony at 7 p.m. today at Hilltop Community Church, 3616 Sunridge Drive.

Jews for Jesus developed Jewish gospel-style music two decades ago. The music reflects many styles of Jewish and Christian worship. They use a variety of instruments to achieve their sound, including piano, guitar, violin and dunbek (Middle Eastern drum).

All the lyrics are taken from the Bible - the Hebrew Scriptures as well as the New Testament.

Jews for Jesus is an independent missionary organization founded in 1973 by Moishe Rosen. The program is free. Call 267-3020.

Community Roots fall festival begins

The Community Roots Nursery's Fall Festival is noon-6 p.m. today and Saturday, and noon -4 p.m. Sunday. The nursery is on the corner of Highway 50 and Second Street across from the Pizza Factory in Dayton.

The event is sponsored by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties and the Lyon County Youth Connection. Call 246-0320.

Brüka to stage Freakers' Ball

Celebrating its 15th year in the Heart of Reno's Downtown Arts District, Brüka Theatre will hold the 10th annual Freakers' Ball tonight. For this extravaganza, the doors open at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Brüka is at 99 N. Virginia St., Reno. Call 323-3221.

Search for ghosts at Bowers Mansion

Mysterious stories, a ghost photo, crystal ball and psychics await all who dare to join Bowers Mansion Park Rangers in search of ghosts and secrets hidden in the old mansion and family graveyard.

Washoe County Park Rangers John Keesee and Darrel Baldwin will lead Ghost Walks at the Mansion 6 p.m. today. They'll take visitors around the mansion grounds and inside the mansion, sharing strange stories about the place and the people who once lived there.

Mansion admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children younger than 17 accompanied by a paying adult. Call 849-1825.

Minden gallery marks anniversary

Old Town Minden celebrates the 22nd anniversary Show at Lone Tree Gallery & Custom Framing today, with a reception from 4-9 p.m. See why the Lone Tree is the fourth annual winner of the Record-Courier's "Best of Art Galleries."

Meet a dozen of the resident artists, enjoy refreshments and the music of local guitarist David Jobe. The gallery carries fine art and the CDs of Lacy J. Dalton and Comstock Cowboys. The show runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 24.
