Lessons learned the hard way; single-family home sales in Tahoe area reportedly up

I broke and sprained my ankle this month when I fell off a step, but this was better than when I broke my wrist in junior high school.

This month, the hospital took an X-ray and told me what happened.

In junior high, the hospital took an X-ray, told me I was fine and then called me a week later at school in the middle of basketball practice to tell me that my wrist was actually broken.

It was my right wrist and I lied and said I couldn't write with my left wrist so I could get out of doing math homework.

This was fine until I wasn't in junior high school anymore.

In high school, I failed my math tests but did the homework and teachers let me pass.

I took the class I cheated through in junior high my freshmen year in college and failed.

Wisely, I waited until the second semester of my senior year to retake the class. I had to look up "dividing fractions" on the Internet to do my first homework assignment. I passed, however, graduated and went on to work a job where I earned enough money to rent an apartment with a single stair in front of the entrance which I could fall off.

Lake Tahoe-based real estate firm Chase International said it is starting to see a major recovery in areas with increased volume of single-family home sales in Incline Village and the east shore of Lake Tahoe. Also, the company says it's providing an Excel-erator training program to all its agents.

Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC, a commercial contracting firm based in Carson City, has completed the work on the two-building, 37,500 square-foot expansion of the Summit Sierra Lifestyle Center.

The project, located at South Virginia Street and Mount Rose Highway, was scheduled for completion late this year but was accelerated to allow tenants to be open for the holiday season. Retail tenants for the two buildings have not been announced.

Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC is performing the work for Reno Retail Co. LLC, a retail developer headquartered at Birmingham, Ala.
