American Legion hosts garage sale

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 56 will be having a garage sale 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday. The garage sale will be held at 961 Desert Court in Sunridge. All proceeds to benefit veterans programs.

Dayton Valley Days this weekend

The 19th annual Dayton Valley Days celebration in historic downtown Dayton on Saturday and Sunday will feature even more fun family fun this year.

The theme this year is "Travel Back to Old Dayton" recognizing The Dayton Station, Dayton's rail depot, along with various forms of transportation from the past. The Grand Marshal will be Grace Ricci.

David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform in two special dinner shows at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the street fair is free; cost of the dinner show is $25 each, and purchasing two tickets gets a third ticket free. Call 246-1630.

Cal Eilrich will put on a fast-draw show, and there will be the annual parade, concerts and food, the Gold Creek, train rides, silent auction and more.

The fourth Dayton Valley Days, Dayton Valley Car Club Show and Shine and parade entry will be Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Dayton Valley Car Club and the Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue. Registration is 8:30-9:30 a.m., parade is 10 a.m. Car Show will be on Pike Street and Main until 4 p.m. Register early for $25, which includes a T-shirt. The car show is for cars and motorcycles.

Crafters, antique dealers, food vendors and a large variety of other booths will line historic Pike Street.

All proceeds will benefit Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and the preservation of historic downtown Dayton.

Public hearings on H-50 corridor study

The Nevada Department of Transportation will hold two public hearings on the recently completed Highway 50 Corridor study.

The study covers 52 miles of Highway 50 from the recently completed Carson City freeway to the junction of Highway 95A.

The first meeting will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 25 at the McAtee Building, 2475 Fort Churchill Road, Silver Springs; and the second will be that same day from 4-7 p.m. at the Lyon County Utilities Building, 34 Lakes Boulevard in Dayton. The corridor study is available online at www.us50corridorstudy.com/Home.htm.

An open forum format will be used throughout the meetings to increase the opportunity for public comment and provide one-on-one discussion with staff members and stakeholders.

Learn to dance at Dayton center

A dance for ages 16 and older, featuring local performers Don and Nadine, will be the first and third Fridays of each month at the Dayton Community Center, 170 Pike St.

Dance lessons will be 8-8:30 p.m. and the dance will go until 10 p.m. Fox-trot, waltz, swing, Latin, country line dance and polka steps will be taught.

Cost is $5 per person, with potluck desserts for the first Friday. The third Friday is a cost of $10 per person with bottled water and snacks provided. Call Denise at 246-6227.

April Verch Band to play in Fallon

The Churchill Arts Council will present critically acclaimed April Verch Band at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon, at 8 p.m. Sept. 29. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and there will be a no-host bar. Calendar girls to sign autographs

There will be a calendar signing evening with the "Carson Calendar Girls" at The Gold Hill Hotel Great Room (one mile south of Virginia City on Highway 342) at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The cost is $20, which includes copy of the calendar and a chance to have the photos autographed by the Carson Calendar Girls.

Rockhound Rendezvous begins Thursday

Attention rock hounds: McDermitt, the site of some of the world's most exciting mineral formations, is preparing to host the fourth annual "Rockhound Rendezvous."

The McDermitt Rock & Gem Show is scheduled for Thursday through Sept. 23, at the McDermitt Community Hall and in the parking lot in front of the Diamond A Motel, which is located on U.S. Highway 95 in McDermitt.

Park event to dedicate playground

New playground equipment and a coming skate track at the Mason Town Park will be dedicated at the park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, an event organized by the Mason Town Advisory Board.

The event will feature free hot dogs and burgers provided by the Kiwanis Club in Yerington, a dunk tank, Slip n' Slide, and a deejay will supply music.

There will also be displays of farm equipment and Mason Valley Fire Department and Emergency Response Equipment.

Car enthusiasts are invited to bring their custom cars for a car show.

Quilters and vendors are sought for the Silver Springs Entertainment and Arts Quilt Show Oct. 6-7. The deadline to enter is Oct. 2.

Carolyn Susac will be the featured judge for the show, slated for the new Silver Springs Senior Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Road, Silver Springs. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7.

There will be vendors, demonstrations and hourly prize drawings. The Golden Needle Quilt Club is assisting SSEA this year.

Lounge Lizards back at Piper's

The Austin Lounge Lizards will perform at Piper's Opera House on Sept. 29.

The offbeat bluegrass band has performed several times at the opera house in past years; they perform music that includes, guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, dobro and steel guitar and a lot of outrageous humor.

They like to poke fun at politics, love, music and the culture in general.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. but the bar at Piper's will be open a half hour before. Tickets are $25.
