Dayton overcomes nine turnovers for win

Dayton High football coach Rick Walker couldn't recall ever winning a game when his team committed nine turnovers.

"I don't believe so," said Walker after his team managed to pull out a 6-0 win over Lowry on Friday at home despite committing nine turnovers. "I don't know if it's ever been done before."

The Dust Devils (2-1) committed nine turnovers all on fumbles, but still managed to win the nonleague game between Northern 3A opponents. The two teams will play again later in the year in a league contest.

There were no offensive points in the game as the only score came on a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown by Anthony Onstott. Walker said Onstott also "had numerous big plays."

But Walker said the entire defense gave an outstanding effort as Dayton outgained Lowry in total yardage 202-35.

Walker said he believes the 35 yards given up is also a school record for the least amount of yards given up in the game. "I'm pretty sure probably ever. I would say it's safe to say," Walker said. "The whole defense stepped up. It was everybody."

Dayton was able to move the ball as Trace Feemster rushed for 88 yards and Brandon Aguilera rushed for 74 yards on 13 carries. Cory Linberg also completed five passes for 40 yards.

"I thoughour offensive line did a lot better job," Walker said. "We just got to hold onto the darn thing."
