The death of a former Carson City teen in Arizona last weekend is under investigation by authorities there.

Carey Smith, 18, was killed when the golf cart she rode in tipped over on her Sunday evening in Green Valley.

Smith's boyfriend, Kiel Stalling, 24, allegedly failed to negotiate a sharp turn and the cart overturned about 6 a.m. Smith was taken to University Medical Center where she died about an hour later, Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Dawn Hanke told the Tucson Citizen.

Hanke said the accident is still under investigation and no decision has been made on whether to seek charges against the cart's driver.

There was no apparent indication of alcohol or drug involvement, but a blood sample taken from the cart's driver still needed to be analyzed, Hanke said.

She said no citations have been issued and if any were, it would not be until after all aspects of the investigation are complete.

Smith moved from Carson City a month ago to live with her boyfriend, according to reports in the Green Valley Arizona News.

Among her survivors are parents Eric and Tamara Bowen of Carson City; grandmother Eve Bowen of Riverside, Calif.; twin brother Casey Wayne Smith of Carson City; sisters Heather Irene Smith and Holly Robin Smith-Ryan of Carson City; boyfriend Kiel Stalling; two nieces; three nephews; two aunts and two uncles.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Sept. 15 at Valley Christian Fellowship, 1267 Highway 395 in Gardnerville.
