The Reno/Tahoe Tennis Hall of a Fame Gala is held each year to honor a local person who has helped to make a difference in people's lives through tennis.

This year Bob Phelps will be inducted into the Reno/Tahoe Tennis Hall of Fame. The event will be held Friday, Nov. 16 at the Lawlor Events Center Silver and Blue Room.

Over the years, Phelps has developed/invented a number of tennis teaching tools. His best known is the Tennis Pac-Tube which is the tubed-device that picks up tennis balls. He invented the Pac-Tube more than 40 years ago. All of his inventions can be seen at the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada tennis facility in Carson City.

Since 1997 Phelps has been the full time volunteer tennis coach for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada. He volunteers Monday through Friday and with an annual membership of about 2,000 youth he has taught tennis to many of these boys and girls year-round.

He is also a member of the Carson Tennis Club and on occasions has been a tennis tournament director and helped out with the summer programs at Carson City's Centennial facility. At 80, Phelps is still is teaching boys and girls with a passion for the game. Congratulations to Bob.

Jeff Greenwald, a peak performance consultant and licensed psychotherapist will be the keynote speaker at the event.

On Saturday, Nov. 17, Greenwald will hold two on-court clinics helping players with his mental edge system. The first clinic will be for adults and the second clinic for youth. These clinics will be held at Lakeridge Tennis Club and reservations are mandatory.

All proceeds raised from this event benefit junior tennis programs in the Northern Nevada/Tahoe regions. These include programs in at-risk schools from elementary through high school and a college scholarship for high school senior tennis players on their way to college.

Reservations are mandatory for both the gala and clinics. Invitations will be in the mail in late September. For more information contact Christy Funk at c.funk@sbcglobal.net or (775) 827-9078. The deadline to register is Tuesday, November 6.
