Lyon County emergency crews responding to the report of a downed aircraft off of Fort Churchill Road east of Dayton have said the wreckage is of an airplane registered in Oregon in 1976.
It is not the plane flown by adventurer Steve Fossett, missing since Monday.
The wreckage is on the north face of Churchill Butte and two white spots are visible from Fort Churchill Road.
A helicopter is dropping off a crew at the top of the butte to hike down to the wreckage.
The wreckage is reportedly on a steep, inaccessible hillside.
Fort Churchill Road is at the eastern edge of Dayton Valley.
