Carson boys soccer wins

Drew Good came through with the pressure penalty kick to give the Carson High boys soccer team the win over CBTIS, Mexico in the Senators' opener at a tournament in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

After the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation in the game that was played in 30-minute halves, Carson won on penalty kicks 5-4, with Good scoring the game-winner. After both teams converted their first four penalty kicks, CBTIS missed on its fifth try. Good then converted his kick to give Carson the win.

Goalie Ryan Lee chose the correct side as the Mexican player missed on the fifth kick wide of the post. "it would have been close," said Carson coach Jason Koop on if Lee would have made the save had the shot been accurate.

Lee came in to play the last 15 minutes of regulation and the penalty kicks with Brandon Briggs playing the rest of the game. "Both of them did very well," Koop said. "Both of them had great saves."

Adam Updegrove, John Nuthall, Brady Roser and Blake Moreland all converted their penalty kicks to set up Good's game-winner.

Carson fell behind 1-0 when Drew Heller was called for a foul in the goal box and CBTIS converted the penalty kick. But Heller made up for the foul by making a steal at midfield, beating a couple of defenders, and then sending a shot that deflected off of a defender and into the net to tie the score 1-1.

Just like the Senator girls, the boys had to deal with difficult field conditions due to a torrential downpour on Monday and Koop said his team was able to handle the tough conditions well. Carson's boys will continue play in the tournament today with two games against the same opponents the Senator girls are facing.
