Most of you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but how many of you know it's also Domestic Violence Awareness Month? Purple ribbons represent support for survivors and victims of domestic violence.
I hate to get on the soap box, but when it comes to these two causes I can not support them enough.
Bringing awareness to the public by wearing a ribbon you might not think means anything, but you are absolutely wrong.
Signing up for a golf tournament, playing some bunco, bidding on a silent auction item all provide needed proceeds to ensure services and programs to assist these amazing causes.
I know it's not October yet, but I'm dedicating this column to all the events out there that benefit these two outstanding colors.
Remember: Think Pink, and never forget purple.

WHAT: Talented Lisa Lee handcrafted a limited amount of beautiful purple ribbons that are numbered and signed. There are only 85.
WHEN: Now until all 85 are sold

This event is a kick, and I know everyone that likes Bunco will have a blast. So calling all Bunco groups out there to sign up your Bunco group to support a great cause.
This event raises money for the free camisole/bra program, Casting for Recovery, individual breast cancer patient's needs and other related expenses.
Thanks to Corky Goldade for thinking up this event in 2004. With the help of co-sponsors GE and Carson Valley Inn, she has raised more than $50,000 for Carson Tahoe Breast Cancer Fund.

There will be a calendar signing evening with the Carson Calendar Girls at The Gold Hill Hotel.
The women of Carson City put together a calendar to raise money for Danielle Conway, who has cancer.
I went to the Bliss Mansion signing, and if you didn't go you truly missed out. Seeing Danielle Conway looking so good after going through such a devastating chemotherapy process with an allergic reaction to the medication, it was simply a miracle to see her as beautiful as ever.

The Carson Fly-Fishing Club's Reel in a Cure fundraiser is raffling a 2007 limited-edition fly-fishing reel.
All the proceeds will go to the "Angel Kiss Foundation," dedicated to helping local families of children with cancer, regardless of income, by providing immediate assistance and support for any expense or need related to treatment. They have a great Web site to check out.
