Carson Senator Midgets roll past Truckee

The Carson Senators Midget football team improved to 2Ð0 by beating the Truckee Wolverines 36-7.

Truckee came out on their second possession of the game and would score on a questionable call. The Senators wouldn't trail for long though, with Dylan Sawyers taking the ensuing kickoff and returning it 73 yards to score the go ahead touchdown. Austin Pacheco would kick the two-point conversion and the Senators would never trail again.

The Senators defense came out a little flat for this game after last week's victory over Douglas.

"After Truckee scored their first touchdown, I think that was a little wake up call for us," said assistant coach Jay Aiazzi. "These kids decided right then and there that they were not going to give up another score for the rest of the game and the final score is indicative of that."

The Senators defense comprised of Tim Baylor, Connor Beattie, Colby Blueberg, Pat Craugh, Chris Fernandez, Patrick Hesse, T. J. Menning, Jake Myers, Cody Odiorne, Tyler Ohl, Pacheco, Logan Peternell, Chance Quilling, Sawyers and Jordan Siembida would not only hold the Wolverines scoreless for the remainder of the game, but never allow Truckee to threaten to score again.

The Senators defense swarmed the field all day long, causing turnover after turnover. Pacheco would have two interceptions and cause a fumble with Odiorne picking up the loose ball. Beattie also stepped in front of Truckee's receiver and gave the Senators their third interception of the day.

Besides returning a 73-yard kickoff, Sawyers would run for another and then catch a Menning pass for a 27-yard touchdown. Sawyers wouldn't stop there; he would also hook up with Pacheco and toss a 47-yard touchdown pass as well.

"Our kids did a great job of blocking today," said offensive coordinator Leonard Lee. Offensive linemen Zach White, Keegan Aiazzi, Tim Baylor, Craugh, Nick Garcia, Taylor Gregorich, Chance Harmon, Rafe King, Myers, Odiorone, Tyler Ohl, Peternell, Siembida, Mike Walters and Ben Wendell gave Menning and Quilling plenty of time to throw.

The Senators running backs consisting of Baylor, Beattie, Blueberg, Pacheco, Peternell, Sawyers and Siembida pounded the ball all day long with Beattie scoring the Senators' fourth touchdown. Pacheco kicked three two-point conversions.

The Senators will travel to Reno to face the Patriots in a battle between unbeatens for sole possession of first place. The game will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at Mira Loma Park.

MITEYMITEBLUESWIN

The Carson Mitey Mite Blue Senators improved to 2-0 Saturday with a convincing 42-12 win over the Reno Ravens at Governor's field.

The Senator offense rolled up 42 points behind the running of Mathias Williams, David Moniz-Lewis and Gage Gunzburg. Quarterback Derek Schafer also tallied a rushing touchdown as well as completing a touchdown pass to Jordan Warren. The Senator offense line had an outstanding day opening holes for the backs. Nick Tibma, Sam Wilson, Bodee Brennan, Alec Fletcher and Noah Tomasco controlled the line of scrimmage.

Defensively the Senators were led by Conner Larkin, Luke Myers, Jesse Knorzer, Kyle Gagnon, Hunter Wheeler, Jarod Butler, Nick Andreas, Anthony Miguel, Spencer Berger, Nick Salm, and Tristen Martel who was in the Raven backfield most of the day. The Senators travel to play Douglas at 8 p.m. Friday at Stodick Park.

TINYMIGHTSILVERWINS

The Carson Senator Tiny Might Silver youth football team continued to roll, winning its second straight game, 24-6 over the Sparks Cardinals in Sparks.

On the first play from scrimmage Abel Carter ran the ball 66 yards for a touchdown. Carson continued to move the ball behind outstanding blocking from Cody Main, Jakob Weaver, Brady Harris, Garrett Clampitt, Josh Buchan, Jonathon Bates, and Buddy McDonald.

Carson's quarterback Zach Harris completed 2-of-2 passes to Richard Romero and Copeland Sargent. Buchan, and Sargent shared running duties with Carter, with Sargent coming up a half of an inch shy of his first touchdown on the last play of the game. Carter scored all of Carson's points.

The defense for Carson continued to hold their opponents' at bay Friday, only allowing Sparks three first downs, and one touchdown. Rylan Fancher got his first fumble recovery and his first tackle. Other first time tacklers were Justin Kattenhorn, and Ben Larkin. Richard Romero had another great night on defense.

One highlight came when he and Buchan combined for a doubled hit on the Cardinal ball carrier to cause a fumble and Carson recovered the loose ball. Carter was in on many tackles as well as Joseph O'Neil, Khayman Garland, Austin Baker, Hayden Wheeler, and Sargent.

Carson will play in its home opener at 10 a.m. Saturday against the Reno Raves Black at Governor's Field.
