SIR, PLEASE CALL!

There was an interesting message on the phone last week from a senior man who wanted to tell us about his hike with another senior. I meant to save it, but pushed the wrong button. I would like very much to talk to the man about his hike. Call or leave a message (see end of column).

TAHOE MARATHON

Some of the country's finest endurance runners will be lacing up their shoes to start the 72-Mile Tahoe Ultra, part of the Lake Tahoe Marathon, Sept. 29. Participants finish the last 26.2 miles of the course with marathoners.

The race begins at Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe and has runners going counter-clockwise around Lake Tahoe. Participants are advised to wear a headlamp and reflective clothing and have a support vehicle and crew for the first 46 miles. This event has a 16-hour time limit. Runners catch up with the traditional Lake Tahoe Marathon racers in Tahoe City.

Other endurance runs hosted by the Lake Tahoe Marathon include the Tahoe Triple (scheduled for Thursday-Sept. 29), which consists of three marathons in three consecutive days through two states. Also offered is the Super Triple, in its second year, which includes two marathons in two consecutive days (Thursday and Friday) and then the 72-Mile Tahoe Ultra.

All participants will receive finishers medal, windshirt, license plate holder, hooded sweatshirt, commemorative plaque and racing singlet.

It's Fun Day Sunday at the Lake Tahoe Marathon Sept. 30 when the Marathon hosts a series of free Kids Fun Runs for toddlers to age 12, at 10:30 a.m., after the 5K event at Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe. All children receive a finisher's medial, hot dog, drink and official runner's race bib. Call (530) 544-7095 or visit www.laketahoemarathon.com.
