Welfare division moves offices

The Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services Office in Carson City, previously at 755 N. Roop St., Suite 201 has moved to 2533 Carson St., Suite 200. The telephone 684-0800 and fax 684-0844 numbers are unchanged.

The Carson City office accepts applications for food stamps, offers temporary assistance for needy families, state welfare benefits, Nevada Medicaid and child care assistance.

Drivers needed for DAV van program

The Carson City Disabled American Veterans in partnership with the Reno Veterans Administration Medical Center is recruiting van drivers. These volunteers serve veteran patients of the medical center by providing transporting them from the Carson Valley/Dayton area to their medical appointments at the hospital.

Driver criteria:

• Current valid driver's license.

• Current personal liability insurance for their personal vehicle.

• Successfully pass the driver physical (given at the Reno VAMC at no charge).

• Be fingerprinted and receive a positive background adjudication.

• Submit a DMV driver's report showing an acceptable driving record.

Robinson joins R&R Partners

Steve Robinson, former deputy chief of staff to both Gov. Jim Gibbons and his predecessor Kenny Guinn, has joined R&R Partners.

Robinson will take over management of the Carson City office Oct. 1.

R&R Public Affairs President Pete Ernaut described him as "a dedicated and experienced professional" with extensive experience in natural resources issues.

He will serve as R&R's liaison to state and regulatory agencies and as part of the firm's Nevada government affairs and lobbying team.

Masto plans rural counties tour

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto will tour 12 of Nevada's 17 counties on her Rural Road Trip beginning Monday.

She said the theme of the trip is Five Challenges Facing Rural Nevadans: methamphetamine, identity theft, domestic violence, senior protection and child advocacy.

"Nevada's rural communities face a unique set of challenges because of their locations and the climate of our state."

She said the goal of the trip is to meet residents face to face, hear their concerns and talk about how her office can help.

The tour begins at the Alamo Senior Center and moves to Pioche and Ely on Monday, Tuesday will take the tour to Elko followed by Battle Mountain and Winnemucca on Wednesday and finishing in Lovelock on Thursday.

New state mental health clinic to open

A new state outpatient mental health care facility will open in Las Vegas on Oct. 1.

Mental Health and Developmental Services Administrator Carlos Brandenburg said the new Mid-Cities Clinic will provide outpatient counseling, psychiatric services, urgent care services, a medication clinic, and a pharmacy. The clinic will also house mental health court staff, Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams, and an intensive care management team.

He said Mid-Cities will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday with a staff of about 45 professionals.

"The Mid-Cities clinic will provide services for a maximum of 1,400 patients, who will have a multitude of mental health professionals available to assist them in a wide variety of areas, along with providing on-site pharmaceutical needs," he said.
