Author to lecture on stagecoach robberies

The history of stagecoach robberies in Nevada boasts some of the most daring adventures involving highwaymen, the boldest and most ingenious road agents and many thrilling pursuits and arrests. The Nevada State Museum will host author R. Michael "Bob" Wilson who will share some of these exciting tales in his presentation "The History of Stagecoach Robbery in Nevada" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wilson will autograph his book at that time.

During his presentation, Wilson will present maps of routes, towns and stations in Nevada involved in notorious stagecoach robberies.

The era extended nearly 50 years during which 77 stagecoaches were robbed as road agents "mined the stages" by stealing the mineral treasure shipped from the mines and the payrolls being brought in. Subsequently, 57 robbers were captured, and most were convicted and sentenced to long terms at the prison near Carson City.

R. Michael "Bob" Wilson is the author of the book "Encyclopedia of Stagecoach Robbery in Nevada" which will be for sale at the museum store the night of the event. He will be releasing his next book "Massacre at Wickenburg" this November.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children under 18. Call 687-4810.
