A memorial service for George Robert Damskey, 87, a 10-year resident of Carson City, will be 1 p.m. today at the Quail Run Clubhouse on Bobwhite Drive.

Mr. Damskey died Sept. 18, 2007, in Reno. He was born Aug. 20, 1920, to George Emett Damskey and Clara Sandvig Damskey, in Omaha, Neb.

Prior to moving to Carson City, Mr. Damskey lived in Sunnyvale, Calif.

He married Frances "Babe" Nigg on April 26, 1946, in Conrad, Mont.

He was a carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed carving, hunting, fishing and fixing things.

He was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Snyder of Carson City in March 2007.

Among his survivors are his wife of 61 years; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Karen Damskey and Richard and Dawn Damskey; brother and sister-in-law Ordell and Ruby Damskey; brother Charles Damskey; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 6362, Reno, NV 89513.

Walton's Funeral Home in Reno is in charge of arrangements.
