It doesn't appear that McDonald's restaurants in Carson City were the target of raids by immigration services today.

But both north Carson fast-food restaurants have closed in anticipation of such a raid, while the McDonald's in South Carson remains open.

Federal agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement reportedly raided 11 McDonald's franchises in Fernley and Reno, arresting at least 40 workers on unknown charges.

"People were arrested on administration violations for possibly being in this country illegally," said Richard Rocha, ICE public relations officer.

The arrests were the result of a five-month investigation prompted by local law enforcement related to an identity theft case, he said.

Rocha said they are not releasing where those arrested are being taken until after they are processed and did not have a complete list of locations raided Thursday.

The Fernley McDonald's drive-thru remained open early Thursday afternoon, but the restaurant's seating area remained closed. A restaurant in Sparks off of McCarran Boulevard also was closed Thursday afternoon.
