All 'Hale' Wolf Pack's victory

Fueled by a pair of home runs by senior right fielder Mike Hale, the Nevada Wolf Pack took an 11-1 victory over new Mexico State Sunday at Peccole Park.

The game was called after seven innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Hale, who was 2-for-4 with five runs batted in, hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the second inning and added another two-run dinger in the sixth to help improve Nevada to 8-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and 17-13 overall.

With the triumph, the Wolf Pack won three games of the four-game series.

New Mexico State fell to 4-4 in the WAC, 14-16 overall.

Nevada added three more runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Designated hitter Terry Walsh, Hale and second baseman David Ciarlo each added an RBI in the frame.

The Pack got another round-tripper - this one a two-run shot from third baseman Jason Rodriguez - to increase its lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning.

Center fielder Jason Sadoian singled before Rodriguez nailed his team-leading seventh homer of the season.

The Aggies scored their only run in the top of the sixth on a grounder by New Mexico State first baseman Chris Auten, who drove in shortstop Richard Stout.

Nevada scored its last four runs in the bottom of the sixth, sending six men to the plate.

Kort, who finished 2-for-2, had a two-run double before Hale hit his second home run.

Starter Brock Stassi (2-0) allowed one run on four hits in 52Ú3 innings of action to pick up his second win of the week. Stassi struck out a career-high four batters in the game and issued three walks.

The Aggies had two runners on base in the top of the seventh when Pack reliever Mario Rivera struck out the final two batters to end the game.

Aggies starter Kent Williamson (2-3) allowed seven runs on six hits over four innings and was hit with the loss.

Nevada returns to action on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Pacific, beginning at 6 p.m.
