Anderson pitches Galena to victory

Galena's Jacob Anderson dialed in Fallon's number again and walked away with an 11-1 win Thursday in a High Desert League game at the Ed Arciniega Athletic Complex.

Anderson, who signed last fall to play baseball for the University of Nevada, tamed the Greenwave, limiting Fallon to three hits and one unearned run. He also struck out nine and walked two.

Galena improves to 6-4 in league, while the Wave drops to 5-5. Both teams play a doubleheader at Reno on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, Anderson's teammates broke open the game in the third inning with three runs, and then coasted for the six-inning victory called because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Fallon took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Trent de Braga, who singled to open the inning, scored on a throwing error. After that Anderson owned the Wave, allowing two more hits.

Galena took advantage of two errors in the third inning. Eric Underwood's grounder drove in one run off Fallon starter Dioney Mendez, and Scott Underwood tripled in another run.

With two outs in the fourth inning, the Grizzlies scored four runs.

Pete Lazzari tripled in a run, while Eric Underwood had an RBI double. Two batters later, Jake Hess ripped a line drive that cleared the left-centerfield fence for a two-run homer.

Galena scored twice in the fifth inning. Both Steven Biehle and Bryan Pointer smacked RBI triples. The Grizzlies finished their scoring with three runs in the sixth. Hess had an RBI double, and Anderson followed with another RBI double.
