The Carson High softball team turned in a respectable showing against Northern 4A power Reno High before losing 8-3 on Thursday at CHS.

Four Senator errors ended up being the difference as five of the first six runs that the Huskies scored ended up being unearned. Daria Leid started for Carson and allowed six runs on six hits through three innings, but just one of the runs were earned.

Nikki Keller finished up for the Senators, holding Reno scoreless for three innings before giving up two runs in the seventh inning.

After Reno took a 3-0 lead in the first, Carson cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the first. Christa Casci singled and then Keller hit a two-run home run.

Reno scored three runs in the third to take a 6-2 lead. In the fourth, after Cassie Vondrak singled, Krista Mattice hit an RBI single to make it 6-3.

Christa Casci had two hits for Carson, which plays a doubleheader at Reno on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Carson fell to 4-9 in the Sierra League. "I'm a little disappointed in the way things turned out," Carson coach Scott Vickrey said. "(Our) pitchers did a great job. We're going to get after them Saturday."
