Carson City


Swing Dance Club to mark anniversary


The High Sierra Swing Dance Club will host a formal ball in recognition of its one-year anniversary.


The club will celebrate with a "Swing Into Spring" dinner and dance ball at the Carson Nugget Saturday beginning with cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.


The dancing will begin at 7 p.m. on a 1,000-square-foot dance floor. Formal or semi-formal attire is requested although not required.


The club recently added a dance hotline at 546-6154.


The public is invited to attend and no dance partner is needed. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 nonmembers. Call Sally Rogers at 883-5931.


Noted soprano sings with Carson Symphony


The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Community Center, and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Oats Park Arts Center in Fallon.


The concerts will feature the internationally acclaimed soprano Lillian Roberts, the winner of the Metropolitan Opera Regional and District auditions; Meistersinger Competition in Austria; Macallister Awards and various other honors.


Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors, students and Symphony Association members, and free for children age 16 and younger. A limited number of complimentary tickets to the Carson City concert will be given to blood donors at United Blood Services during the week before the concert. Cowboy poetry at Gold Hill on Tuesday evening


Enjoy an entertaining evening with singer/songwriter Tom Weatherby and range poet Dennis Golden as they perform a "purt near" all new - except for a couple of favorites - tunes featuring both original and classic poems and songs of the West in this historic setting on Tuesday. Buffet available from 5-7 p.m., show at 7:30.

Airstream owners holding camping rally


The Sierra Nevada Unit of the WBCCI Airstream Owners Club will host a camping rally from Thursday to Sunday at Ft. Sage BLM campground near Doyle, Calif., about 45 miles north of Reno. Cost is $5 per night donation to the Sierra Nevada Unit. Guests of members as well as all current and potential Airstream owners welcome.
