YERINGTON " A Fernley man faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced for sexually assaulting a child.

Barry Lee Newpher II was convicted by a jury April 16 on two counts of sexual assault against a child under 14.

Prosecutors said one incident in Fernley happened in November 2005. The other in June 2006 took place in Silver Springs.

The victim was 13 years old at the time.

"There is simply no tolerance for these types of crimes against children," said Mark Krueger, Lyon County deputy district attorney.

Newpher faces a sentence of 20 years to life on each of the two counts.

Sentencing was set for June 23.
