A Yerington man was killed Friday morning when he became trapped between the frame and bed of a dump truck at an onion farm.
Jesus Juarez, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:30 a.m. accident at Nevada Onion on Bowman Lane in Yerington.
According to Lyon County Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Veil, Juarez was directed by his manager to take a load of refuse and dump it nearby.
When Juarez hadn't returned within a half hour, the manager went to look for him and found him trapped and unresponsive.
Veil said investigators think Juarez had partially raised the dump bed when the engine began to fail because it was running out of gasoline.
He said Juarez may have not realized the issue, and went to look under the bed to find out what was preventing it from tilting completely, when the engine stopped. Without power to fuel the hydraulics, the bed fell.
The accident is under investigation, and the Occupational Safety Health Administration was also notified.
Juarez, a Yerington resident for several years, leaves behind a girlfriend and two small children, said Veil.
