McAlman sets personal mark

Carson High graduate Alex McAlman continued her outstanding season for the University of Nevada women's track team by setting a personal best in the women's hammer throw on Friday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.

Schools competing in the event include California, Stanford, San Diego State, New Mexico, Utah State, Illinois, Fresno State, Houston, San Francisco and Saint Mary's.

McAlman, a sophomore, threw 183 feet, six inches, a personal best, to take fourth. McAlman already qualified for the NCAA West Regional Championships by throwing 18-2 6 1/2 last week at the Long Beach (Calif.) Invitational. McAlman also threw 147-6 1/2 to take sixth in the discus. The meet concludes today.
