Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee


Mile High Jazz Band performs, 8-10 p.m., tonight at Comma Coffee Courtyard, 312 S. Carson St. General admission is $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, and free for age 18 and younger. Swing Dance lessons 6 to 7:30 p.m. are $5 additional. Alliance hosts Ice Cream Social


Nevada Alliance for Academic Excellence will host their Second New Teachers Ice Cream Social to meet and greet new administrators and teachers, 5-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the garden of the Governor's Mansion, 600 Mountain St. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Children's theater hosts two workshops


Wild Horse Children's Theater presents two exciting workshops geared to students 8 and up, Saturday, Aug. 23. In the first workshop, 9-11 a.m., students will learn the choreography from the hit show "So You Think You Can Dance."


The cost of this workshop is $30. "Auditioning for Commercials and TV", 11 a.m. to noon will focus on the difference between auditioning for theater and film, and will incorporate actual on-camera experience and helpful tools for auditioning.


The cost of this workshop is $20.00. Attend both workshops and pay $40.00.The workshops will be at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson Street. Space is limited.

Library Foundation seeking crafters for Oktoberfest


The Carson City Library Foundation is looking for crafters to participate in the tenth annual Oktoberfest, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday Oct. 4. The event will be held in the Pony Express Pavilion. The booth sizes are 10-by-10 and cost $50. The Pavilion is semi-enclosed, protected from the sun, but not the wind. The proceeds benefit the Carson City Library. For information, call 883-2834.




4-H leaders and co-leaders needed


University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is now recruiting volunteer leaders for its 4-H youth leadership and development programs. No experience is necessary, and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension provides training and support for all 4-H volunteers.


Clubs in Carson City and Storey County need leaders or co-leaders for shooting sports, including archery, air pistol, air rifle, .22 rifle and muzzleloader; rabbit; poultry; cat; sewing; cooking; small animals, such as frogs, amphibians, ferrets, etc.

Dayton


Introduction to basic GPS navigation offered at Dayton State Park


A free "Introduction to basic GPS navigation" will be held 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Aug. 16 at Dayton State Park on U.S. 50. A limited number of handheld GPS units will be available for the program, participants are encouraged to bring their own GPS Unit. Reservations are recommended.
