Marvin Lee Martin, 83, passed away at his home August 10, 2008.

He was born in Travis, Texas June 11, 1925 to James and Effie Martin. He had ten brothers and sisters. In 1931, the family moved to San Diego, Calif. where he attended school. In November 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Military Police in the San Francisco area. He was married to Gloria Hasley, and they had two children, Linda and Michael. They divorced in 1977. Marvin worked in the grocery business, and for many years was produce manager for Jurgenson's of Montecito, Calif. until retirement in 1981.

He married Evelyn Hirst on May 27, 1983 in Sedona, Ariz., and moved to Incline Village where they lived for 13 years before moving to Carson City in 1996. Marvin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a volunteer at the Carson City Senior Center, and bowled in the Young at Heart Bowling League.

He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings as well as his son, Michael.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn and three stepchildren, his daughter Linda Menzel of Santa Barbara, two grandchildren Mariah and Richard, and three great-grandsons.

A memorial service is pending at First Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery in the Veterans section. FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for arrangements.
