Clay off to solid start

Bryan Clay is currently in first place in the decathlon at the Olympics in Beijing, with a solid performance in the first event the 100 meters. Clay finished in 10.44 seconds to score 989 points. At the U.S. Olympic Trials, Clay equaled his own world record and personal best of 10.39 to score 1,000 points. Fellow American Trey Hardee was in second with 970 points after running 10.52.

Clay is coached by 1983 Carson High graduate Kevin Reid. The next decathlon event will be the long jump at 7:30 p.m.
