Beck performs at Grand Sierra Casino


Beck, with guest Devendra Banhart will perform at 8 p.m. tonight at the Grand Sierra Casino in Reno. Beck draws on a variety of musical influences Ð from hip-hop, folk, country, blues, R&B, funk, indie rock and more.


Banhart has been the face of freak-folk scene.

Fall photos sought for exhibit at Bartley Ranch


Share your favorite fall photographs with thousands of Washoe County park visitors by entering Bartley Ranch Regional Park's Sierra Autumn photography exhibit. Photographs will be displayed in the park's Western Heritage Interpretive Center throughout the month of October.


Visitors will be asked to vote for a "peoples choice" award and all participating photographers will be asked to vote for an "artists choice" award. The exhibit is free to the public.


Entry deadline is Sept. 25. There is no entry fee. Participants are asked to submit no more than two framed and ready-to-hang photos that express views of autumn in the Sierra. To obtain an entry form, call 828-6659




Women leadership seminar in planned


Leadership Skills for Women, a seminar presented by Roz Parry, will be held 9 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Sept. 25, at Washoe County Complex.


This is a seminar to help area women executives and professionals move quickly into the corporate boardroom.


The seminar, sponsored by the Nevada Small Business Development Center in the UNR Business College, covers such topics as: Developing your unique leadership style; powerful communication skills to motivate and inspire others; dealing with difficult people in tough situations; building community partnerships through networking and mentoring; balancing personal and work lives and stress management.
