Carson JV girls lose heartbreaker

The Carson Senators got off to an inauspicious start in the State Farm Classic at North Valleys High School on Friday.

After Carson's Eliza Matley's basket tied the game at 43-43 with .5 seconds left on the clock, the Huskies had to inbound the ball with the length of the floor to go and Carson with a foul to give.

Senators coach Wayne Nash told his players to foul, but the decision backfired when a referee decided the Reno player was in the act of shooting and awarded the Huskies three free throws.

Nash said the Reno player's hands weren't raised and wasn't in the act of shooting when she was between her own foul line and halfcourt.

He also said he and his two assistants were trying to call a timeout while Reno was sinking all three free throws, but were ignored.

Reno took the 46-43 win, as Carson fell to 7-3 on the season.

Lisa Yamamoto led Carson with 17 points. Matley added six, Kate Schulz five and Jazmyn Stokes four.

The Senators play Fallon today at North Valleys High School. Tip-off is 9 a.m.

CARSON JV BOYS 62, RENO 55: The Senators improved to 6-1 as Chris Steele led the team with 18 points.

Danny Gall added 10 points for Carson, which will meet Fallon today at noon at North Valleys High School.

CARSON FROSH BOYS 61, RENO 55: Ty Keffer scored 31 points went 11-for-11 from the line to lead Carson, now 8-1, to the win. Max Keller added eight for the Senators, who play South Tahoe today at 1:30 p.m. at NVHS.
