CARSON FROSH GIRLS REMAINS UNBEATEN

The Carson High School freshmen girls basketball team defeated Reno and North Valleys in the State Farm Classic Tournament at North Valleys High School.

Carson, now 12-0, opened up the tournament with a 61-23 victory over Reno on Friday. Taya Rains led a strong defensive effort and added seven rebounds. Kahlia Wahpepah and Taylor-rae Canfield each had three assists. 

The Senators advanced to Monday's semifinals of the tournament with a 38-30 victory over host North Valleys on Saturday. Carson stayed in a tight man defense the entire game. 

Alli Vondrak and Kaitlyn Holmes pulled down six rebounds each. Taylor-rae Canfield and Emily Collins each had two assists and Megan Justice blocked three shots for Carson , which plays again at 10:45 a.m. Monday at North Valleys High School.

CARSON JV BOYS 61, FALLON 36

Gary Anderson led the Senators with 20 points. Carson, now 7-1, also got 14 points from Chris Steele. The Senators will meet Manogue in the semifinals of the State Farm Classic Tournament on Monday. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at North Valleys High School.

CARSON FROSH BOYS 73, SOUTH TAHOE 32

Chance Quilling led the Senators with 14 points. Carson, now 9-1, also got 12 points from Geoff Taylor and 11 from Austin Pacheco in the State Farm Classic Tournament. The Senators will play the winner of Wooster-Manogue at North Valleys High School on Monday. Tip-off is 5:45 p.m.

THREE CARSON WRESTLERS PLACE AT JV TOURNEY

Sophomore Jimmy Weir led the Senators wrestling with a first-place finish at 145 pounds in the Spanish Springs junior varsity tournament on Saturday.

Freshman Tyler Penbrook took second place in the 103-pound division and freshman Nate Stevens took third at 112 pounds.

Carson will field a full varsity squad and a near-full JV squad for the Douglas Invitational on Jan. 3, in Minden. The tournament begins at 9 a.m.
