120 years ago


The editor came near telling a great truth when he said that "an editor gets the credit of writing all articles that do not meet the appropriation of the readers of the paper, but when something appears that pleases the readers, every one wonders who wrote the piece."


100 years ago


While digging potholes in one of the principal streets of Rawhide, workmen threw out into the street pieces of rock sparkling with gold. Immediately a number of persons began locating the streets for mining claims. Several claims were located, but the owners will not be allowed to work the them from the surface of the street. The miners who have examined the rock state that it comes from a rich ledge and the streets of Rawhide are probably lined with golden ore.


70 years ago


Officers of the Carson City Rotary Club are John L. Harvey, president; Raby J. Newton, secretary-treasurer, and Peter A. Amodei, sergeant-at-arms. Members of the board of directors of the club are J. L. Harvey, C. B. Austin, T. L. Duncan, Bernard C. Hartung, Hugh Shamberger, George A. Martin and W. T. Holcomb.


50 years ago


Senator Alan Bible has been formally approved as chairman of the committee on the District of Colombia, an assignment that unofficially makes the Nevadan the "mayor of Washington." Bible's chairmanship marks the first time since 1954 that a Nevada senator has headed one of the 15 Senate standing committees. The last to hold a chairmanship was Senator Pat McCarran, who at the time of his death was chairman of the Judiciary committee.


20 years ago


An auger drilling below Virginia Street in Reno cut a fiber optic cable providing long distance and 911 service for Carson, Carson Valley, Washoe Valley, Incline Village and portions of Storey and Lyon Counties.


10 years ago


Carson-Tahoe Hospital Trustee Pete Livermore announced a run for the Board of Supervisors seat in District 3.
