May 21, 1916 - January 31, 2008

A beloved mother, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep while staying at her son, John's home in Sacramento. She was 91.

Madelyn was born in Susanville to Grover and Olive DeWitt. She married Gabriel P. Laxalt in 1946 and they lived in Susanville until 1973 when they moved to Carson City which has been Madelyn's home for the past 34 years.

She is survived by her son John and wife Candy Laxalt of Sacramento; two brothers, Robert and wife Marcella DeWitt and Richard and wife Janet DeWitt of Susanville; one granddaughter, Jessica (Laxalt) Porter with husband Cameron of Santa Barbara; Aunt Eunice Lamson of Penn Valley, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death, less than a year ago by her sister Ruby Fay Moore.

We know she will be dearly missed in both cities as Madelyn was very active in many of the same Women's Charities for several years in both Susanville and Carson City. These women are more like sisters, thank you for taking care of her.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church (corner of Musser and Division) in Carson City. Reception to follow (775) 882-5847. North Sacramento Funeral Home handled arrangements.
