(Staff report) - The deadline for Fernley residents affected by the Jan. 5 flood to register for federal and state disaster aid is March 10.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the state of Nevada's Homeowners Disaster Assistance Program have all set March 10 as the deadline to register for assistance.

To register or check on the status of an existing registration with FEMA, call 1-800-621-FEMA or visit www.fema.gov. Residents must also submit loan applications to the SBA by March 10.

While no one is required to take out an SBA loan, applications are a key part of the FEMA application process. A loan denial may lead to other assistance for eligible applicants.

The Nevada Homeowners Disaster Assistance Program requests residents fill out paperwork by March 10 as well. Call 775-784-9985 with questions about the program.

Residents with questions about SBA loans should visit the Disaster Loan Outreach Center at Fernley City Hall, 595 Silver Lace Blvd.
