Personal choices make a difference in a person's life, and when they are spiritually inspired even the smallest action serves a larger whole.

A one-day workshop, "Your Soul's Compass: What is Spiritual Guidance," will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel Conference Center, 211 E. Ninth St. The workshop features Dr. Joan Borysenko and is hosted by St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

"The workshop is an invitation for those seeking spiritual renewal and reconnection," said Kim Morgan, with St. Peter's.

In a time of global change and uncertainty, there's a renewed thirst for meaning and purpose - a dawning realization that happiness isn't a commodity that can be bought with a credit card.

Through lecture, guided meditations and dialogue, Borysenko will offer workshop participants ways to deepen their personal alignment with the divine. They will learn the art of distinguishing the movement of spirit in our lives from our own wants, fears and social conditioning. Participants will be empowered to make the best, most-inspired contribution to the evolution of life.

Borysenko is one of the most popular and sought-after speakers in the fields of health, healing and spirituality.

Trained as both a medical scientist and psychologist, she received her doctorate from the Harvard Medical School, where she also completed three post-doctoral fellowships. She went on to start Mind-Body clinical programs at two Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals.

She is the author or co-author of 13 other books, including the best-selling "Minding the Body - Mending the Mind," "Inner Peace for Busy People," "A Woman's Book of Life," "Saying Yes to Change," "Pocketful of Miracles" and her latest, with Gordon Dveirin, "Your Soul's Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance?"

Pre-registration is advised as seating is limited. Registration fee is $115 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. For information, call Morgan at 883-1681.

In addition to the Saturday workshop, Borysenko will give an introductory lecture from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, corner of West Telegraph and North Division streets. There is no charge for the Friday lecture.

March 2, Borysenko will preach at the 10 a.m. contemporary service at St. Peter's. It is open to the public.

Doors to the workshop open at 8:30 a.m. for check-in and continental breakfast.
