Kids in Transition program benefits from community's generosity

Thank you, Carson City, on behalf of the hundreds of children in the Carson City School District's Kids in Transition program who benefit from your generosity. A federal grant helps to fund the program, but the daily needs of these children are met on a year-round basis largely through community donations of money, school supplies, shoes/clothing, and special services.

The recent Christmas With a Cop event was very successful thanks to all those who participated, including members of the general public, and groups like Western Nevada College, Wal-Mart, Karson Kruzers, McDonald's, the Dept. of Welfare, and the Dept. of Justice. Sheriff Furlong and his department deputies, staff and volunteers were front and center with the kids during the shopping spree.

A special and personal thanks goes out to Deputy Meliah Gonzales, Detective Daniel Gonzales and Detective Dena Lacy. This powerhouse of a trio is actively dedicated to improving the lives of the children in our community.

I am excited to announce that we are gearing up for our Step Into Spring shoe event. Thank you to everyone who makes this a very successful event every year. Much of that success is based on support we receive from the faith-based community of Carson City and Big 5 Sporting Goods who partnered with us last year to meet our goal of providing a new pair of shoes to each child in our program.

Unselfish and often anonymous in their efforts, individuals and groups are making a real and positive difference in the lives of our community's children, and therefore in our community as a whole.

To donate to the Kids in Transition Program, please feel free to contact me. Checks should be made out to Carson City School District's K.I.T. program, and mailed directly to our office. Donations are tax-deductible.

Sincerely,

Jeannette Famoso,

Kids in Transition coordinator

Carson City School District
