Supporters of Obama to gather for watch party


Obama Campaign precinct captains and supporters will gather at 6 p.m. today to cheer on Sen. Barack Obama while awaiting the returns of the New Hampshire Primary, the second early state contest. At the parties, precinct captains and volunteers will phone bank their friends and neighbors to talk about why Barack Obama is the best candidate to bring about fundamental change.

Beware of unlicensed contractors offering flood-repair assistance


The Nevada State Contractors Board is warning Northern Nevada homeowners to beware of scam artists who offer home repairs, following the recent flooding. It is important to verify that a contractor is licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board before giving any money, or authorization for rain or flood-damage repairs.


Any contractor who performs residential or commercial remodeling or repairs must have a valid Nevada State Contractors Board license and display it on his contract or invoice and must provide his pocket licensed contractor ID card, if requested by the homeowner.


Northern Nevada homeowners may contact the board at: 688-1141, or call the unlicensed contractor hotline at: 775- 850-7838 to see if a contractor being considered is licensed and in good standing, or visit the board Web site at: www.nscb.state.nv.us.




Deadline to RSVP for Christian Women's meeting is Friday


The Christian Women's Connection will meet 11:30 a.m. Jan. 16 at the Gold Dust West, 2171 Highway 50 East, in the Juniper Room.


The program, "Clutters Last Stand," will feature Pam Grein of Penn Valley, Calif., who will share her tips of organizing closets and storage spaces. Grein is also the guest speaker. She is an entrepreneurial business women and owner of "The Hang Up," a custom closet and storage solution, and how she was twice adopted.

'Vagina Monologues' auditions now Saturday


Wild Horse Productions of the "The Vagina Monologues" auditions have been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College.


No theater experience or preparation for the audition is needed and those auditioning will be given selections from the play to read. Women, ages 18 and up, from all walks of life, all ages, sizes, and nationalities are invited to join in this production. Everyone who attends this casting call will be involved in some aspect of the production and no one will be turned away. All you need is the desire to help raise awareness and stop violence against women and children. This production will be directed by Micha Marie Stevens and will be presented at Marlette Hall at WNC March 14, 15.
