Grizzlies ice hockey falls twice

The Tahoe Grizzlies Youth Ice Hockey team dropped two games this past weekend to the Tri-Valley Blue Devils of Dublin, Calif.

The Grizzlies lost 8-2 on Saturday and 7-1 on Sunday. On Saturday, Carson City's T.J. Olson scored on an assist from Carson City's D.J. Freeman and Freeman scored on a breakaway.

On Sunday, Olson scored on an assist from Freeman. Throughout the weekend, the Grizzlies received solid play from Freeman, Olson, Carson City's Matt Premo and Luke Weinberg, South Tahoe's Shane Whitt and Randy Hutton, Gardnerville's Heath Sunseri and Tasha Aiken. Whitt had an outstanding weekend at goalie for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies are a Pee Wee travel ice hockey team ages 11-12 comprised of players from Carson, Reno, Gardnerville, Virginia City, Verdi, South Tahoe and Minden. The Gizzlies will next face the San Francisco Sabercats.

Youth, adult lessons at Empire Ranch

Empire Ranch Golf Course will offer a year-round junior golf program. Instructor coordinator will be PGA pro Terry Gingell.

The program is for boys and girls ages 7-17. The program will cover all aspects of the game, including course instruction.

One 90-minute session per week from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday will be held. The program will be held from April through September. Cost is $195.

Adult group lessons wil also be offered at Empire Ranch. Six hours of instructioin covering all aspects of the game will be offered in four weekly 90-minute sessions.

A class fo women will begin on April 1 and be held at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday. Another class for women will begin on April 2 and be held at 10 a.m. every Wednesday. A mixed class will also begin on April 2 and be held at 5:30 p.m. ever Wednesday. Cost is $75 per peson.
