Alex Hilgenberg, a fitness enthusiast and certified personal trainer, will soon be offering the opportunity for Fernley residents to access a gym 24 hours a day when he opens Anytime Fitness in mid-February.

"We're here to promote more health and fitness," he said. "The facility is the only one in Fernley available 24 hours. This gives flexibility to the larger corporations in the industrial park with the number of different shifts their employees work."

The gym's location at 1201 Penny Lane in the new Chisholm Crossing Shopping Center is close to the industrial complexes along Newlands Drive.

A self-proclaimed "12-year gym rat" and fitness competitor, he sees the need for a variety of training opportunities in the area.

The new Anytime Fitness will offer 3,500 square feet of gym space with new Life Fitness equipment, tanning and changing rooms with showers. Fernley resident Shelby Hill, fitness manager and head trainer, will be supervising clients along with Hilgenberg and two independent certified personal trainers.

Hilgenberg attended the University of Nevada to get his business degree and received a bachelor's degree in finance. He worked for financial institutions and other business-related companies before deciding to start his own business.

"I needed to be a part of an industry and running a business that I'm really passionate about," Hilgenberg said. "I like providing nutritional coaching, guiding clients with weight loss and other aspects of the fitness field. It makes going to work really easy."

He sees the fitness center as an opportunity for people ages 13 and older to concentrate on weight loss, corrective injury training and sports performance.

Hill will be working closely with Hilgenberg. She authored the gym's motto, "If you don't make time for health and fitness, you have to make time for illness and injury."

Anytime Fitness is a franchise company with more than 1,000 locations. Members have access to all locations with reciprocity across the country including three locations in Reno and three more new sites coming soon, including one in Fallon.
